초록
본 연구는 한국 전통문학 텍스트 속에 나타난 노인의 모습을 통해 전통사회에서 노인의 위상 변화를 살펴보는 데 있다. 특히 18세기에 유행했던 야담문학을 통해 당시의 민중들이 노인에 대해 가지는 태도와 가치를 살펴 그것이 오늘날 우리 사회 현실에서의 노인과 어떤 관련이 있는 것인지를 조명하는 데 그 의의가 있다. 야담문학은 시류에 따른 개방적인 풍속도를 반영하였기에 변화하는 노인에 대한 양상을 살펴볼 수 있는 문학텍스트로 매력이 있다. 따라서 여기에 나타난 노인의 性, 노인의 은퇴, 노인의 여가는 결국 노인의 인권과 관련되는 것으로 노인이 높은 생활만족도를 유지할 수 있도록 국가적인 정책 입안이 필요함을 역설한 것으로 볼 수 있다. 또한 고대신화시대에는 존경과 권위의 대상이었던 노인이 조선후기에 이르러 풍자와 골계의 대상으로 전락한 원인도 이 야담문학을 통해 살펴볼 수 있다. 이는 결국 생산성의 향상으로 노인은 더 이상 기능적인 면에서 역할을 담보하지 못하다 보니 편견과 배제의 사회적 억압기제에 노출되는 결과를 낳았다고 볼 수 있다. 문학이 사회현실을 반영한다는 면에서 이것은 당시의 세태를 충분히 감지할 수 있는 것이다. 따라서 노인의 부양이 가족관계 안에서만 이루어지는 조선조 후기는 노인복지 정책의 한계성이 뚜렷하다. 결국 노인 문제를 사회적 쟁점으로 확장하고자 한 기초작업으로서 야담문학은 당당히 그 소임을 다 하고 있는 것이라 할 수 있다.
The purpose of this research is to examine how the social position of the elderly people have been changed in the traditional society by considering the elderly characters appearing in the Korean traditional texts - especially, the 18th Korean folk tale. In that the Korean folk tale follows the new trend 'openness' in those days, it has a meaning of finding out the changing aspects for the elderly people. Therefore, it tells us that the sex, retirement, and leisure of the elderly people suggested in this research can be linked with the human rights of the people, and as such, it emphasizes us that the national policy-planning for the elderly is so required paradoxically. Also, we can find out the reasons why the old people of the respect and authority in the ancient mythological era have become nothing but a befooling target. After all, in the viewpoint of productivity, the aged people no longer fulfill their duty to make profit, resulting in the pressure mechanism exposed by general people's prejudice and isolation. Accordingly, it is obvious that the policies for the old people's welfare is limited only within their families in the late Cho-sun Dynasty. Eventually, as a basic framework that extend all the stuff related to the old people to a social issue, the Korean folk tale now bears its responsibility.
