이 연구의 주된 목적은 한국인의 정신건강 도움요청행위에 대한 탐색적 이해를 도모함으로써 정신보건서비스의 활성화 전략을 도출하기 위한 근거를 마련하는데 있다. 이를 위해, 도움요청행위와 관련된 다양한 선행요인, 접근요인, 욕구요인들 가운데 한국인이 심리정신적 이유로 일반의료제공자와 정신건강전문가를 찾는 행위에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 파악하고자 설문도구를 구성하고 자발적 참여자 300명을 대상으로 자기응답식 설문조사를 실시했다. 연구의 결과, 일반의료제공자를 찾는데 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 요인들은 성별, 신뢰/불신의 정도, 주관적 욕구였으며, 정신건강전문가를 찾는데 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 요인들은 객관적 욕구, 성별, 자원이용경험, 사회적 승인, 가족의 승인인 것으로 나타났다. 이에 따라 결론에서는 성별에 따른 차별화된 전략, 의료제공자의 선별 및 의뢰 역할의 강화, 일반인과 사회복지실무자에 대한 정신건강역량(mental health literacy)의 강화 등을 제언했다.
The primary purpose of this study is to explore help-seeking behavior of Koreans with mental health problems and provide a basis for strategies to facilitate use of mental health services. A self-administered questionnaire was designed for a survey of 300 voluntary respondents to identify which of the factors among predisposing, enabling, and need factors affect the behavior of seeking help from general medical providers and mental health professionals. The study results showed that sex, trust/mistrust, and subjective need were the most influential factors affecting the use of general medical services, while objective need, sex, past experience of using resources and social sanction being the most influential in the use of mental health services. In the conclusion, this study discussed the need to enhance mental health literacy among the general public, apply gender-specific strategies in promoting help-seeking behavior, and increase the role of screening and referral among general medical providers.
