A Validation Study of the Korean Version of Philadelphia Geriatric Center for Morale Scale

본 연구는 한국판 필라델피아 노화연구소 노인용 사기 척도 PGCMS(Philadelphia Geriatric Center Morale Scale)의 신뢰도와 타당도를 평가하기 위해 수행되었다. PGCMS는 평정감, 노화에 대한 태도, 삶의 만족의 세하위 요인을 합산하여 노인의 사기를 측정하도록 구성되어 있는데, 3차에 걸친 연구를 통해 본 척도의 타당도를 검증하였다. 1차 연구에서는 844(평균연령 71.59, 표준편차 5.09)명의 노인을 대상으로 본 척도의 3요인 구조를 확인하고, 내적 일관성을 확인하였다. 2차 연구에서는 1,272(평균연령 72.4, 표준편차 5.55)명의 노인을 대상으로 1차 연구에서 확인한 3요인구조를 교차타당화를 통해 구조의 안정성을 확인하였다. 3차 연구에서는 300(평균연령 74.58, 표준편차 5.92)명의 노인을 대상으로 PGCMS 척도와 삶의 만족, 우울, 정서경험, 신체건강과의 관련성을 분석하여 준거 타당도를 확인하였다. 그 결과, 한국판 PGCMS가 노인의 사기 및 삶의 만족을 측정하는데 타당하고 유용한 도구라는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구 결과의 시사점과 후속 연구를 위한 제안을 논의하였다.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the reliability and validity of the Korean version of Philadelphia Geriatric Center Morale Scale(PGCMS) which assessed the quality of life of the elderly.
PGCMS consists of three sub-scales: non-agitation, attitude toward own aging, life satisfaction. In this study, we examined the psychometric properties of Korean version of PGCMS through performing researches for three-times. The first study was performed with 844 older adults(m=71.59, sd=5.09),and confirmed the validity of three-factor model and the internal consistency of this scale. In the second study, we did cross-validation of the three-factor model by using Amos with 1,272 older adults(m=72.4, sd=5.55) and confirmed again. Finally, we confirmed the criterion-related validity of the Korean version of PGCMS with life satisfaction scale, depression scale, health satisfaction,negative and positive emotion experiences scales with 300 elderly(m=74.58, sd=5.92). These results suggested that the Korean version of the PGCMS was useful scale that measured elderly's quality of life. The implications and limitations were discussed along with suggestions for future studies.
