A Phenomenological Inquiry into the Lived Experiences of Catholic Religious Orders as a Manager in Social Welfare Organizations

초록
본 연구는 사회복지조직의 관리자로 있는 가톨릭교회 수도자들의 관리자 경험의 본질을 현상학적으로 포착하여 이해하기 위해 실시되었다. 수도자로서 사회복지조직의 관리자 12명에 대한 면접자료를 분석한 결과 “희망을 향해 가는 불안”이 본질로 도출되었다. 본질이 형성되고 전개되는 과정은 “자기비움을 통한 경계를 살아가기”에서 순환적으로 이루어졌다. 본질구성요소는 “자기 자신: 전문적인 능력과 영적인 힘의 경계”, “수도공동체: 간섭과 관심의 경계”, “직원: 실망과 기대의 경계”, “클라이언트: 클라이언트를 위한 서비스와 클라이언트에게 좋은 서비스”, “외부이해관계자: 분리됨과 섞임의 경계” 등이다. 연구결과에 근거하여 방법적 및 실천적 함의가 제시되었다.
This inquiry was to understand about the lived experiences of Catholic religious orders in the manager position of social welfare organizations by using phenomenological method. Twelve Catholic religious orders in the manager position of social welfare organizations were selected. The data collected by in-depth and open-ended interviews with them were analyzed by using Hycner's(1985) method. ‘Anxiety toward Hope' was extracted as the essence of the experiences of the participants from the data. The process of forming and developing their anxieties toward hope was occurred over and over again in their life-styles, ‘living on the border through self-surrender'. And the sources of their anxieties toward hope were various borders which the participants experienced as a manager in their organizations: "identity: the border between professional competence and spiritual force in practicing their authorities”, "monastic community life: the border between being controlled and supported”, "employees: the border between disappointment and expectation about them”, "clients: the border between good service for them and good service to them”, and "external stakeholders: the border between separating from them and being together with them”. The methodological and practical implications were proposed in the study.
