Recognized of Good Death by the Elderly in Korea : Qualitative Interpretive Meta Synthesis

본 연구는 한국노인의 좋은 죽음에 대한 인식을 탐색하고자 최근 사회복지분야에서 새롭게 소개된 질적 해석적 메타통합 분석방법(Qualitative interpretive meta synthesis, QIMS)을 적용하였다. 각각의 질적 개별연구물에 대한 종합적인 분석은 기존 연구물들이 제시하는 결과로부터 축적된 지식과 시너지적 이해로 풍성한 결과를 도출할 수 있기 때문에 사회복지분야에 맞는 QIMS의 적용방법 및 특성을 자세하게 살펴보았다. 표본추출은 국내에서 2000년부터 2019년 1월까지 출간된 학위논문 및 미출판 간행물, 학술지 게재논문 중 총 8편으로 광범위한 연구물을 포함하여 접근하였다. 질적 개별연구물에서 추출된 주제를 통합하여 새롭고 중요한 요소로 해석된 주제는 (1) 죽음의 경험적 해석, (2) 배려와 소망이 담긴 죽음, (3) 죽음을 준비하며 삶의 의미 유지하기, (4) 죽음을 받아들이며 총 4개의 범주가 도출되었다. 통합된 주제들로부터 이끌어낸 시너지적 이해는 한국노인이 인식하는 좋은 죽음은 삶의 경험을 통해 죽음을 이해하며 배려와 소망이 담긴 죽음을 준비하며 삶의 의미를 유지함으로써 다가올 죽음을 받아들이는 것으로 해석되었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 한국노인의 좋은 죽음에 개입하는 노인복지정책 및 실천서비스 제공에 필요한 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다.
This study was performed on the recognition of good death by the elderly in Korea and conducted by applying the newly introduced the Qualitative Interpretive Meta Synthesis (QIMS) in the field of social welfare. A comprehensive analysis of each qualitative individual research paper examines the application method and characteristics of QIMS for the social welfare field because it can derive rich results through accumulated knowledge and synergistic understanding from the results presented by existing research papers. The sampling was extensively approached including eight dissertations, unpublished publications and academic papers published in Korea from 2000 to January 2019. The topics extracted from the qualitative individual research paper were integrated, and a total of four categories (1) empirical interpretation of death, (2) death with consideration and desire, (3) maintaining the meaning of life in preparation for death, (4) accepting death. The synergy understanding derived from the integrated themes is that a good death recognized by the elderly in Korea is understood as the acceptance of the future death by understanding the death through the experience of life, preparing the death with consideration and desire, and maintaining the meaning of life. Based on these results, this study will provide the basic data necessary for establishing welfare policies for the elderly and providing social welfare practice services that intervene in the good death of the elderly in Korea.
