An Ethnographic Study on the Role of Grandparents to Support the Independence of Single-parent Families

초록
본 연구는 한부모가정의 초기 자립을 지원하는 조부모의 역할에 대하여 문화기술적 연구방법으로, 연구참여자들은 한부모가정의 조부모들로 자녀의 이혼이 3년 미만의 연구대상자로 선정하였다. 한부모가정과 관련된 지금까지의 연구에서는 한부모가족의 생활실태 및 지원에 관한연구들로 조부모의 역할과 관련된 연구가 부족하여 본 연구는 한부모가정의 초기 자립을 지원하는 조부모의 역할에 대한 삶 전체가 이해될 수 있도록 2017년 11월부터 자료가 완전 포화상태에 이르는 2019년 3월까지 약 17개월에 걸쳐 광범위한 영역에 대하여 구체적인 문화기술적 서술 방법으로 진행하였다. 본 연구에서의 영역구성은 첫째는 한부모가정과 조부모에게서나타난 생활의 변화, 둘째는 한부모가정의 이혼 초기 삶의 변화과정, 셋째는 현실세계에서의조부모의 고민에 대한 영역이며, 마지막으로 한부모가정의 초기 자립을 지원하는 조부모의 역할에 대한 영역으로 구성 하였다. 본 연구결과 먼저 건전한 정신건강을 위하여 손자녀들에게더 많은 사랑을 베풀고 있었으며, 둘째는 손자녀에 대한 보호자(아빠)와 조부모의 역할을 동시에 수행하고 있었고, 셋째는 자녀(딸)의 사회생활을 위한 후원자로서의 역할수행 그리고 마지막으로 정상적인 가정생활의 자립을 위한 경제적 지원을 담당하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본연구결과를 토대로 한부모가정의 초기자립을 지원하는 조부모의 역할에 대한 실천적 개입 방향은 첫째는 한부모가정의 자녀(손자녀) 양육에 대한 서비스 제공과 거주공간에 대한 안전이필요하였고, 둘째는 한부모가정의 정상적인 생활을 위한 경제적 지원이 필요하였으며, 셋째는한부모가정에 대한 지속적인 사회적 지원의 필요성이 제기되었다. 이처럼 본 연구는 한부모가정이 이혼 후 행복한 삶을 살아갈 수 있도록 초기 자립을 지원하는 조부모의 역할에 대한 실천적 개입방향을 제시하기 위한 문화기술적 연구이다.
This study is an ethnographic study for the role of grandparents to support the early independence of single-parent families. Participants were the grandparents of single-parent families whose children divorced less than 3 years. Previous studies related to single-parent families have studied the living conditions and support of single-parent families, so there is a lack of research on the role of grandparents. For about 17 months from November 2017 to March 2019, specific ethnographic descriptions were conducted for a wide range of areas. The domain composition in this study is the change of life in single-parent families and grandparents. The scopes of this study are as following: First, the change of life in single-parent families and grandparents. Secondly, the process of change of life in the early stages of divorce of single-parent families. Third, the areas of grandparents’ concerns in the real world. Finally, the grandparents who support the early independence of single-parent families.
As a result of this study, they are giving more love to their grandchildren for healthy mental health, protecting them and serving as grandparents, and supporting their children’s social life. And lastly, they provide economic support for independent normal life.
Based on the results of this study, the direction of practical intervention on the role of grandparents who support the early independence of single-parent families, first of all, it is needed to provide care of parenting and safe living places. Secondly, economic support is needed to live normal life. and third, the need for continuous social support for single-parent families is raised. As such, this study is an ethnographic study to suggest the direction of practical intervention on the role of grandparents to support early independence so that single-parent families can live a happy life after divorce.
