본 연구는 휠체어 이용 장애인의 이동성이 사회적 차별경험을 매개로 하여 우울에 미치는 영향을 살펴본다. 장애인 이동성 연구는 주로 주관적 이동지표를 사용하였다는 한계가 있다. 이러한 한계를 고려하여 본 연구는 기존의 주관적 이동지표와 함께, 핸드폰으로 수집한 GPS 데이터를 활용하여 도출한 객관적 이동지표를 사용하였다. 먼저 2017 장애인실태조사 데이터를 사용하여 경로분석을 실시한 결과, 외출횟수는 사회적 차별경험을 매개로 우울겸험에 정적인 영향이 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 2019년에 수집한 본 연구팀의 데이터를 분석한 결과도 2017 장애인실태조사 데이터의 결과와 일치하였다. 분석모델에 GPS 데이터로 도출한 객관적 이동지표를 추가한 결과, 일평균 이동거리가 사회적 차별경험을 매개로 우울에 정적인 영향이 있음을 확인하였다. 이동이 지니는 사회적 특성을 고려한 이동약자의 이동성 연구와 정책개발이 필요함을 시사한다.

This study examines the mediating effects of social discrimination on the relationships between mobility and depression among wheelchair users. Previous studies on mobility of the disabled relied on subjective measures of mobility. To address the limitation, in this study, subjective measures and objective measures based on GPS data from participants’ cell phones were used together. Results of path analysis based on data from “2017 National Survey on Persons with Disabilities” revealed that the number of going out had positive indirect effects on depression through social discrimination. When data collected for this study were used, the results were same. The final path analysis estimated a path model adding objective measures of mobility. Results showed that the daily average moving-distance had positive indirect effects on depression through social discrimination. These findings imply that social meanings of mobility need to be considered when scholars and policy makers work on mobility issues of the mobility disabled.
