민감한 내용을 종종 다루는 사회복지연구에서는 사회적 바람직성의 영향에 대한 관심이 특히 요구되나 지금까지 사회적 바람직성에 대한 연구는 전혀 이루어지지 않았다. 이러한 문제를 인식한 본 연구는 사회복지학계에서는 최초로 사회적 바람직성을 측정하는 척도를 개발하기 위한 목적을 갖고 수행되었다. 본 연구는 가장 최근에 개발된 사회적 바람직성 척도인 SDS-17을 우리말로 번안한 후 한국어판 SDS-17의 요인구조, 신뢰도, 타당도를 평가하였다. SDS-17과 마찬가지로 한국어판 SDS-17도 단일요인으로 구성된 사회적 바람직성 척도로 나타났다. 한국어판 SDS-17의 신뢰도는 양호하였으며(=0.77), 한국어판 SDS-17은 Marlowe-Crowne의 사회적 바람직성 척도와 정적 상관관계를 보였고 가정폭력을 측정하는 척도(Conflict Tactics Scale)와는 부적 상관관계를 보임으로써 척도의 수렴타당도가 입증되었다. 한국어판 SDS-17은 대부분의 인구사회학적 변수들과 통계적으로 유의미한 관계를 보이지 않아 척도의 판별타당도 또한 입증되었다. 마지막으로 사회적 바람직성 영향을 제거한 후의 가정폭력척도의 평균이 사회적 바람직성 영향을 제거하기 전의 평균보다 크게 나타나 본 조사에 참여한 가정폭력 가해 남성들이 자신의 가정폭력을 축소보고 하고 있음을 제시하였다.

Social Desirability bias should be considered in social work research dealing with sensitive topics, but it has been ignored. The purpose of this study is to develop the Korean version of the Social Desirability Scale-17(SDS-17). The SDS-17 is the most recently developed scale and has contemporary contents compared to other scales measuring social desirability bias. This study was conducted with a total of 93 spouse violence perpetrators. The exploratory factor analysis reveals that the Korean version of the SDS-17(SDS-17-K) is a single factor measure like the SDS-17. The alpha coefficient the SDS-17-K is 0.77 which indicates that it has good reliability. The convergent validity of the SDS-17-K was supported by being positively correlated with the Marlowe-Crowne Scale and negatively correlated with the Conflict Tactics Scale measuring family violence. The SDS-17-K is very weakly correlated with discriminant variables.
