Elderly Volunteering as a Productive Aging Activity: Effects of Human Capitals

우리나라 베이비붐 세대의 노년기 진입이 시작됨에 따라 노인의 사회적 역할과 기여에 대한 관심이 증폭되고 있으며, 따라서 노년기의 생산적 노화활동으로써 노인자원봉사활동의 중요성이 부각되고 있다. 본 논문은 노인자원봉사활동이 생산적 노화활동이라는 개념을 구체화시켜 적용하고, 노인자원봉사활동과 참여자의 인적 및 사회적 자본과의 구조적 관계를 분석하여 노인자원봉사활동이 참여자의 인적 자본 및 사회적 자본에 의하여 촉진되거나 억제되는 합리적 활동이라는 점을 부각시키고자 하였다. 나아가 이결과를 바탕으로 노인자원봉사활동의 실천 방향을 생산적 노화와 인적 자본 개념 틀의 관점에서 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 55세 이상 우리나라 전체 중고령자를 대상으로 한 전국규모 데이터를 분석하였으며(N=6,945), 통계적 분석기법으로는 자원봉사빈도를 추정하기 위하여 중분류분석(MCA)을 사용하였고, 노인자원봉사활동과 투입요소로써 인적자본과 사회적 자본의 관계를 추정하기 위해서 로지스틱분석과 OLS회귀분석을 활용하였다. 분석 결과, 인적자본과 사회적 자본 변수는 문화적 가치 변수, 상황변수, 사회 경제적 변수 등을 통제한 가운데 자원봉사활동과 의미 있는 수준에서 관련성을 갖고 있었다. 이 결과는 오늘날 노인자원봉사가 시민참여의 한 형태로 제도화된 가운데 개인의 동기 및 신분지위에 기초한 특성으로서 보다 일반 노인이 지닌 보편적 자본에 의하여 더 잘 설명될 수 있음을 암시한다. 그리고 본 논문은 노인이 자원봉사를 통하여 전체 사회에 기여하고 동시에 그 자신도 혜택을 얻기 위해서는 지식, 기술, 경험 등과 같은 보편적 인적 자원을 적극적으로 활용하는 자원봉사정책이 유효함을 논의하였다.
Recently policy interests in elderly volunteering and productive aging have grown as Korean baby boomers begin to enter old age. The paper makes attempts to determine a structural relationship between elderly volunteering and volunteer human capitals by specifying a cod apt of productive aging. The analysis of the effects of human capitals on elderly volunteering will show that elderly's human capitals may facilitate or hinder the volunteering fects of huma. Accordingly the thesis tries to examine elderly volunteering in terms of human capital framework and suggests the practi agalternatives. The ress ts show that human capital variables have an effect on the elderly volunteering activity, codtrolling for social capital variables, cs tural value variables, context variables, and socio-economic variables. This ress ts suggests that volunteer policy needs to make full ued y, human capitals such as skills, knowledges, experiences, informations in order to make them contribute to society and get benefits from the volunteering.
