본 논문은 많은 노인 자원봉사활동 관련 연구가 사회자본을 다른 자본 변수와 경쟁관계에 있는 하나의 변수로만 취급하는 경향에 대하여 이의를 제기하고, 사회자 본은 자원봉사활동에 대하여 독립적 효과뿐만 아니라 인적 자본의 효과를 조절하는 기능을 갖고 있다는 점을 강조하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 전국규모의 통계자료를 분석에 활용하였고, 노인자원봉사 및 사회적 자본의 평균수준과 모집단의 통계치를 추정하기 위하여 다변량 분석 기법을 적용하였다. 분석결과, 사회 자본을 구성하는 공식적 상호작용, 비공식 상호작용, 네트워크 유무 변수는 정적 효과를 갖는 것으로 나타났고, 사회통합의 정도가 높은 것을 나타내는 사회자본 변수인 결혼변수는 통계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 그러나 인적자본변수인 임금소득과 사회자본 변수인 비공식 상호작용의 상호작용 항은 정적 효과를 갖고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이결과는 사회자본 변수가 독립적 효과를 가질 뿐만 아니라, 나아가 인적 자본 변수를 중재하여 차별적으로 작용한다는 것을 함의한다. 마지막으로 논문은 사회자본이 공식적 상호작용, 즉 사회단체와 같은 자발적 결사체의 맥락에서 노인자원봉사를 촉진한다는 점을 논의하였다.
This paper aims to clarify the definition of social capitals and find their roles and functions in voluntarism of older persons. This paper criticizes that the previous studies treated simply social capitals as a control or an independent variable in the model estimation. However, the paper makes an emphasis on the importance of social capital’s roles in assuring potential older volunteers. For the purpose, the study analyzed the national sample of older person and applied logistic regression and descriptive statistics techniques in order to assess the mean level of social capitals and the population statistics. The results show that social capital variables, formal interaction, informal interaction and social networks are in positive and independent relationships with volunteering but social integration is not statistically significant. Also, an interaction term of wage income and informal interaction variables is shown to be significant. This suggests that social capital variables not only have net effects but also mediate the effects of human capital variables on volunteer participation. At the end of the paper, the paper discusses that formal interactions in the level of voluntary organizations.
