Relationships between and determinants of Informal and Formal Support Among Persons with Serious Mental Illness

이 연구는 장기적이고 복합적인 지원이 필요한 정신장애인에게 도움을 제공하는 공식 및비공식적 지원 사이의 상호관계와 그 영향요인을 분석하는 데 목적을 둔다. 공식적 및비공식적 지원의 결정 요인을 통합적으로 발굴하기 위하여 앤더슨(Andersen)과 뉴먼(Newman) 모형 그리고 계획된 행동 이론(Theory of Planned Behavior: TPB)을 적용하였다. 심각한 정신질환을 가진 경기도의 지역거주 정신장애인 총 399명에게설문조사를 실시하여 자료를 수집한 뒤, 3단계 최소자승법을 활용하여 분석하였다.
주요한 연구 결과는 공식적 지원이 증가할수록 비공식적 지원에 대한 의존이 증가하였다. 또한, 앤더슨과 뉴먼 모형에 근거하여 진단 질환은 공식적 지원에, 연령과 결혼상태는 비공식적 지원에 대한 의존에 유의미한 영향을 미쳤다. 계획된 행동 이론에 근거하여서비스 만족도는 공식적 지원에, 자존감 및 낙인 지각은 비공식적 지원에 대한 의존에 유의미한 영향을 미쳤다. 본 연구 결과를 바탕으로 이론적 및 실천적 함의를 제시하였다.
This study examines the extent of substitution between formal and informal support and factors influencing behaviors seeking the external support among persons with serious mental illness(SMI). Andersen and Newman model and Theory of Planned Behaviors were considered with regard to seeking the external help. 399 persons with SMI who utilized community-based services were surveyed and analyzed, employing 3 Stages Least Squares analysis.
Major findings showed that the increased amount of formal support enhanced the amount of informal support. Based on Andersen and Newman,formal support was predicted by diagnosis and informal support by age and marriage status. Based on Theory of Planned Behavior, formal support was predicted by the positive attitude to mental health services and informal support by the positive attitude to self and self-stigma. Implications were addressed theoretically and practically.
