본 연구는 정신보건서비스의 효과성 및 정신장애인의 회복과정을 측정하는 정신건강회복척도(Mental Health Recovery Measure, 이하 MHRM로 약술. Bullock, 2005)의 한국어 번역본에 대한 신뢰도와 타당도를 평가하여 한국어판 정신건강회복척도(Mental Health Recovery Measure, 이하 MHRM-K로 약술)를 소개하기 위한 것이다. 연구방법은 요인분석을 통해 MHRM의 30문항보다 2개 문항이 적어진 28문항의 척도를 확립하였고, 이에 대해 임파워먼트척도 및 정신장애인의 일반기능척도와 상관관계를 비교하여 수렴타당도를 검증하였다. 정신과적 증상척도, 유병기간과 같은 정신과적 증상 관련 특성들과의 상관관계 분석을 통해 판별타당도를 검증하였다. 연구 결과 기존 유사 개념 척도들과는 높은 정적 상관관계를 보였으며 이론적으로 연관성이 낮은 특성들과는 부적관계를 보이거나 유의미한 상관관계를 보이지 않아 수렴타당도 및 판별타당도가 검증되었다. 내적 일치도 방법을 사용한 한국어판 정신건강회복척도의 신뢰도는 α=.95(N=319)로 매우 높았으며 이를 통해 한국어 번역본의 사용 가능성을 검증하였다. 회복 패러다임은 정신질환의 만성성보다는 회복 가능성에 초점을 두고, 정신과적 증상이 있더라도 보다 더 의미 있는 역할의 수행을 통해 정신질환으로부터 회복할 수 있다는 신념과 희망을 강조하고 있다. 본 연구 결과는 이러한 회복 패러다임에 대한 근간의 학계 및 실천 현장의 연구 활동에 기본 도구를 제공하는 것이다. 정신보건사회복지에 있어 새로운 패러다임인 회복패러다임에 기초한 측정 도구 중 하나인 본 한국어판 정신건강회복척도의 소개로 관련 연구 및 현장 적용성에 대한 논의가 보다 더 활발해 질 것으로 기대한다.
MHRM was developed by Young and Bullock for the purpose of meauring mental health recovery in 1999. This study examined the reliability and the validity of the Korean version of the Mental Health Recovery Measure(MHRM-K). MHRM-K was constituted with the 28 items excluded 16th and 30th items from MHRM(2005). The validation of MHRM-K examined through the confirmatory factor analysis and the correlation analysis with the empowerment scale, the basic functioning scale for people with the mental illness and the psychiatric symptom related scale. MHRM-K was correlated with the empowerment scale and basic functioning scale for people with mental illness significant positively, but not correlated with symptom related items likewise the psychiatric diagnostic criteria. The reliability of MHRM-K(28items) was α=.95(N=319). The mean of MHRM-K=82/112(SD=20) was higher than MHRM=80/120(30items, SD=20) from Bullock's research report in 2005. This study has the limitation that the objective were the people with mental illness who have been already trained in community rehabilitation centers or vocational training centers. In spite of this limitation, the result of validation of MHRM-K will encourage and support application of the recovery paradigm based practice and further research about recovery oriented community mental health service in Korea.
