The Impact of Academic Stress on Delinquent Behavior－Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Depression－

본 연구는 학업스트레스가 청소년 비행 행동에 미치는 영향을 파악하고 우울의 매개효과를 검증하는 것이다. 이를 위해 서울시 서대문구의 “아동？청소년의 가정생활 및 학교생활에 관한 연구” 자료 중, 중학교 2학년생 총 665명의 자료를 활용하였다. 분석 결과, 조사대상자의 34.3%가 지난 1년간 1회 이상의 비행 행동을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 학업스트레스는 청소년 비행 행동에 정적인 영향을 미치고 있었으며 우울을 투입하여 매개효과를 검증한 결과, 학업스트레스가 우울을 거쳐 청소년 비행 행동에 영향을 미치는 완전 매개(full mediation)효과가 발견되었다. 즉, 학업스트레스가 높은 청소년들이 우울이 높았고, 우울이 높은 청소년들이 비행 행동을 더 많이 하는 것이 확인되었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 청소년 비행 예방을 위한 실천적이며 정책적인 개입 방안을 제안하였다.
The purpose of the study is to examine the influence of academic stress on delinquent behavior and to investigate the mediating effect of depression on the association between academic stress and delinquent behavior. For the purpose of this study, the data from 665 adolescents were analyzed using SPSS 18.0. The analytic results report that 34.3% of the study sample have conducted delinquent behaviors. Academic stress has also been found to have a positive effect on juvenile delinquency. The results from multiple regression analysis revealed that academic stress has a significant effect on juvenile delinquency through depression. Depression is found to have a full mediation effect. In summary, the findings suggest that adolescents with higher levels of academic stress, are more likely to have higher depression; and higher depression increases the probability of conducting delinquent behaviors. Based on these results, the researchers suggest intervention strategies that could prevent academic stress, depression and juvenile delinquency.
