본 연구에서는 이중언어 및 이중문화 교육의 과정산물인 이중문화적 특성이 어머니와의 관계나 아동의 장기적인 발달산물에 어떻게 기여하는지 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 현재 프로그램에 참여하고 있거나 참여한 경험이있는 아동 112명과 참여한 경험이 없는 서울, 경인지역 베트남 다문화가정아동 73명을 비교 분석하였다. 분석결과 아동의 이중언어 및 상호문화 이해능력이 과정산물의 매개를 통해 최종발달산물에 영향을 미침을 확인할 수 있었다. 베트남 언어 및 한국-베트남 문화에 대한 이해는 이중문화적 특성이라는 과정산물의 증가를 가져오고, 이러한 과정산물의 긍정적인 변화는 학교적응 및 심리적 적응 산물에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 뿐만아니라 이중문화적 특성은 어머니와 자녀의 관계에도 긍정적인 영향을 미치며, 이러한 어머니와의 긍정적 관계는 아동의 학교적응과 심리적 적응산물에긍정적인 변화를 가져오는 것으로 나타났다. 최적 모형 선택을 위해 완전매개모형과 부분매개모형을 비교한 결과 최종산물에 영향을 미치는 직접경로를제약한 완전매개모형을 최종모형으로 선택하였다. 이러한 결과를 통해 최종적인 아동 및 가족산물의 변화를 가져오는 핵심 요소는 이중문화적 특성의향상이라는 과정산물에 있음을 확인하였다. 결론에서는 다문화가정 자녀를이중언어？문화교육의 성공적 실행을 위한 실천적 함의를 논의하였다.
This study examined the impact of bicultural identity―the process outcome of abilingual and bicultural education program―on child-mother relationship and children’sdevelopmental outcomes. A sample of 112 children who participated or have participatedin the program was compared with a comparison group of 73 children. The findingssuggested that children’s bilingual ability and bicultural knowledge affected children’sdevelopmental outcomes. This relationship is mediated by the process outcome ofbicultural identity. Increase in Vietnamese language ability and Vietnamese-Koreancultural knowledge resulted in an increase of bicultural identity, and the positivechange in the process outcome led to positive changes in children's developmentaloutcomes such as school adaptation and self-esteem. In addition, bicultural identityhad a positive impact on mother-child relationship, which led to positive changesin children's school adaptation and self-esteem. Comparing the full-mediation andthe partial-mediation model, we selected the full-mediation model as the finalmodel. These results suggest that one of the critical components that bringchanges in children and their families is the process outcome of enhancedbicultural identity. Implications for successful practice in bilingual and biculturaleducation for multicultural families are discussed.
