Post-Traumatic Growth of the Firstborn Who Experienced the Separation of Her Father by Death: Based on the Life Historical Approach

본 연구는 부친과 사별한 한부모가족 맏이의 삶과 적응에 대해서 생애사 연구방법을 통해 심층적이고 맥락적으로 이해하는 것이 목적이다. 연구 참여자(23세)는 7년 전에 아버지를 사별하였으며, 2녀 1남 중 맏이이다. 심층면담 내용은 만델바움이 제시한 삶의 영역, 전환점, 적응에 기초하여 내용을 분석하였다. 연구 참여자는 아버지 사별 전과 후를 경험하는 과정에서 ‘맏이로서 가족을 챙겨야 하는 삶(현실적 자기)’과 ‘자기주도적인 삶(이상적 자기)’을 생성해내기까지 자신의 생애사를 통해 갈등과 고민, 그리고 성장하기까지의 과정을 풀어내고 있다. 특히 참여자의 생애 조절메카니즘으로서 ‘자주적 삶의 의지’는 한부모가족 내에서 맏이가 겪은 외상을 성장으로 전환하여 이끌어가는 힘이 되고 있으며, 자신의 삶의 의미를 발견하기까지 돛의 역할로 작동한 것으로 볼 수 있었다.
This study aims to understand in depth and contextually of the firstborn’s life and adaptation in single-parent family who experienced separation with father by death through life history research. The interviewed research participant(23-year-old) who is the firstborn of two daughters and one son experienced separation with father by death 7 years ago. The research has been analyzed based on Life Dimensions, Turning Points and Adaptation by Mandelbaum. While research participant experienced father’s death, conflict of her own life history and process to growth have been interviewed until formation of taking care of her family as a first born(Real self) and self-directed life((Ideal self). Especially, the will to independent life, as a Life adjustment mechanism in single-parent, lead to convert trauma to growth. And it works as a sail to figure out own’s meaning of life.
