The Exploratory Research on the Educational Significance of Grandmothers’ Care for Grandchildren

본 연구는 맞벌이 자녀를 둔 할머니의 손자녀 양육 지원이 갖는 교육적 의미를 탐색해 보는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 질적 연구방법 중 Spradley의 문화기술지 연구방법을 사용하였다. 연구참여자는 다양한 맥락에서 1년 이상 손자녀를 정기적으로 돌보고 있거나 돌보았던 할머니 13명이며 심층면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 자료의 분석 결과 손자녀 양육지원이 할머니에게 갖는 교육적 의미로는 ‘키우는 기쁨을 온전히 느낌’, ‘자신의 자녀 양육방식에 대한 반성’ 이, 손자녀에게 갖는 교육적 의미로는 ‘손자녀의 인성을 중시함’이, 성인자녀에게 갖는 교육적 의미로는 ‘성인자녀의 양육태도를 보완함’이 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 할머니의 손자녀 양육지원이 갖는 교육적 의미를 심층적으로 고찰하였다.
The purpose of the research is to explore the educational significance of grandmothers' care for grandchildren in double-income families. The ethnographic method out of qualitative research methods, developed by Spradley, was used for the study. The participants in the research comprised 13 grandmothers who cared or have cared for grandchildren on a regular basis more than one year in the diverse context, and the data were collected through deep interviews with them. The results of the data analysis showed as the educational significance of granchildren-rearing in grandmothers ‘Feeling full parenting-joy’ and ‘Repenting their parenting method on their offspring’, as the educational significance in grandchildren ‘Emphasizing personality education for grandchildren’, and as the educational significance in adult offspring ‘Supplementing their adult offspring's parenting attitude. This paper contemplates the meaning of the educational significance of grandmothers' care for grandchildren.
