초록
사회복지사는 클라이언트의 고통을 잘 이해하고 그 고통을 경감시키기 위해서 다양한 역할을 수행하는 전문가이다. 사회복지사의 이런 능력은 클라이언트의 고통을 줄이고 도우려는 욕망과 클라이언트에게 공감된 감정을 행동으로 옮긴다는 점에서 연민(compassion)으로 표현할 수 있다. 사회복지사의 자세나 역량은 사회복지서비스의 질(質)에 많은 영향을 준다는 점에서 사회복지사가 느끼는 연민은 중요하게 다루어야 할 주제이다. 사회복지사의 연민은 직무만족과 같이 자신의 업무에 만족하는 긍정적 결과로 이어지기도 하지만, 소진, 이차외상스트레스와 같은 부정적 결과를 초래하기도 한다. Professional Quality of Life scale(ProQOL)은 사회복지사를 비롯한 원조전문가의 연민으로 인한 결과를 측정하는 유용한 도구이다. 본 연구는 한국어판 ProQOL을 객관적으로 평가하여 사회복지사의 연민의 결과와 관련한 연구 활성화에 기여하려는 목적으로 진행되었다. 본 연구에는 서울과 수도권에 위치한 사회복지기관에서 근무하는 250명의 사회복지사가 참여하였다. 요인분석을 실시한 결과 한국어판 ProQOL은 2가지 차원(연민만족, 연민피로)으로 구성되어 있음이 확인되었다. 하위 요인별 내적 신뢰계수의 범위는 .852~.912로 각 요인들이 동질적인 문항들로 구성되어 있음이 확인되었다. 타당도 평가를 위해서 직무만족과 소진, 이차외상스트레스와의 상관관계를 분석하였는데, 한국어판 ProQOL의 하위 요인인 연민만족은 직무만족과 정적인 상관관계를 보였고, 연민피로는 소진, 이차외상스트레스와 정적인 상관관계를 보였다.
An ability to comprehensively understand and deliver clients’ thoughts and emotions is important for social workers, experts who perform various roles enhancing clients’quality of life. This ability of social workers can be expressed as compassion reducing other people’s distress and taking desire and sympathized emotions into actions. Compassion is a concept embracing positive aspects of being satisfied with one’s own tasks such as social workers’ job satisfaction, and negative aspects of burnout and secondary traumatic stress. Professional Quality of Life scale (ProQOL) is a useful tool measuring the result of helping professionals’ compassion including of social workers. This study was conducted with the aim of contributing to the development of active research related to the results of social workers’ compassion by objectively assessing the Korean Version of ProQOL. 250 social workers working in social welfare institutions located in Seoul and the Seoul metropolitan areas participated in this study. Exploratory factor analysis confirmed that the Korean Version of ProQOL consists of 2 dimensions (compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue) and that they have acceptable levels of internal consistency. It was confirmed that each factor consists of similar questionnaires, where the confidence interval per secondary factor ranges from .852~.912. As we analyzed the correlations of job satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress to assess convergent validity, compassion satisfaction was positively related to job satisfaction, while compassion fatigue was positively related to both burnout and secondary traumatic stress.
