본 연구는 통계청의 2004년 생활시간 조사자료를 이용, 한국의 60세 이상 노인의 생활세계를 분석하여, 노인복지정책 수립에 필요한 기초 정보를 제공하는 한편, 노인복지정책의 기본 방향을 제시함을 그 목적으로 한다. 본 연구는 다른 연령집단들과 구별된 노인 생활세계의 일반적 특성을 파악하는 한편, 일가족여가 등 구체적인 항목에서 나타나는 노인의 생활세계의 이질성을 함께 분석하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같이 요약될 수 있다. 첫째, 노년기가 되면 개인유지활동이 증가하고, ‘일’과 관련된 생활시간이 크게 감소하는 반면, ‘여가’시간은 크게 증가하였지만, 여가의 질은 상대적으로 열악하였다. 둘째, ‘가족’과 관련된 노인들의 생활시간의 사용에는 상당한 성별 격차가 존재하였다. 셋째, 노인들의 연령, 농가여부, 혼인상태, 지역, 교육수준과 같은 인구사회학적 특성에 따라 상이한 생활세계가 관찰되기도 하였다. 이러한 분석결과를 바탕으로 노인복지정책의 기본 방향을 제시하였으며, 생활시간자료를 이용한 다양한 실증연구의 필요성을 강조하였다.
This paper examines the life-world of the elderly by analysing '2004 Time Use Survey' data. In so doing, the study aims to provide basic information and policy directions for the elderly. General features of the life-world of the elderly, which is distinguished from other age groups, were extracted, and the heterogeneities within the elderly group were analysed at the same time. Main findings of the study can be summarized as follows. First, 'personal care' and 'leisure' time increases among elderly whereas 'work' time decreases rapidly. But the quality of the increased 'leisure' remains relatively poor. Secondly, there exists significant gender-discrepancies on the time-use regarding 'family'. Thirdly, different life-worlds have been observed according to the socio-demographic features such as age, agriculture, marital status, education and region. Based on these findings, the study draws some policy directions for the elderly and stresses the necessities of various empirical studies utilizing the Time Use Survey data in the field of elderly welfare.
