The influence of social stigma on depression among youth after school dropout: Focus on the mediating effect of self-esteem

본 연구의 목적은 학업중단 청소년의 사회적 낙인감이 우울에 미치는 영향에서 자아존중감의 매개효과를 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해 학업중단 청소년패널조사의 5차 년도(2017년) 자료의 318명을 데이터를 활용하여 분석하였다. 사회적 낙인감과 우울간의 관계에서 자아존중감의 매개효과를 검증하기 위하여 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 또한, 매개효과의 유의성 검증을 위해 SPSS Process Macro의 부트스트래핑(bootstrapping)을 실시하였다. 분석결과, 학업중단 청소년의 사회적 낙인감은 우울에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 학업중단 청소년의 사회적 낙인감이 우울에 영향을 미치는데 자아존중감의 부분 매개효과가 검증되었다. 이와 같은 연구결과를 바탕으로 함의와 제언을 논의하였다.
The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of self-esteem in the relationship between social stigma and depression among youth after school dropout. The participants were 318 youth after school dropout, with data taken from the 5th year (2017) panel survey of school dropouts. A hierarchical regression analysis was conducted to examine the mediating effect of self-esteem in the relationship between social stigma and depression among youth after school dropout. In addition, a bootstrapping was used to examine the mediating effect. The findings were as follows. First, social stigma was found to have positive impact on the depression. Second, partial mediating effect of self-esteem was found in the relationship between social stigma and depression. Based on these result, suggestions and implications were provided.
