불평등한 부부간 가사분담은 성 평등한 역할분담이라는 ‘거대한 혁명’을 어렵게 하는 원인이자 결과이기 때문에, 가사분담에 영향을 미치는 요인을 규명하려는 많은 시도가 이루어져 왔다. 그러나 기존 연구들은 개인의 경제적 능력과 관련한 요인에만 초점을 두었고, 개인의 가치관 측면의 영향을 살펴본 연구가 부족하였다. 이에 본 연구는 한국 기혼 부부의 가사 분담에 개인의 가치관인 ‘성역할태도’가 영향을 미치는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 즉, 개인의 성역할태도가 본인의 가사노동시간과 비중에 영향을 미치는지, 부부의 성역할태도가 서로 상호작용 효과가 있는지 검증하고자 하였다. 분석 결과, 남편의 성역할태도는 남편 본인과 아내의 가사 참여에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 전통적 성역할태도를 가진 남편일수록 본인 가사 참여가 적고, 아내의 가사 비중은 높은 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 아내의 성역할태도는 남편과 아내의 가사 참여에 직접적인 효과는 없었으나, 남편의 성역할 태도와 상호작용 효과가 있는 것으로 드러났다. 남편이 전통적 성역할태도를 가진 경우는 아내의 성역할태도는 본인의 가사참여 정도에 유의한 영향을 미치지 못한 반면, 비전통적 성역할태도를 가진 남편과 결혼한 아내는 본인 성역할태도에 따라 가사에 참여 정도가 달라지는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 개인의 성역할태도가 배우자와의 평등한 가사 분담에 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라, 서로 상호작용 하는 것을 밝힘으로써 개인들의 평등한 성역할 태도를 제고할 필요성을 제시하였다. 이를 위해 서비스 중심의 일-생활 양립 정책, 수준 높은 보육과 육아휴직 제공, ‘국가의 성평등 수준 제고’ 자체를 목적으로 한 여러 정책들이 실현되어야 함을 제언하였다.
Unequal house-sharing has been both a cause and a consequence of the “great revolution” of gender-equal role-sharing, so many attempts have been made to identify the factors that influence housework sharing. However, existing studies focused only on factors related to the individual's economic ability, and there was a lack of research on the effects of the individual's values or attitudes. So this study aims to examine the influence of 'gender role attitude' on the share of household chores of Korean married couples. The results showed that the husband's gender role attitude had a significant effect on the husband's own and his wife's participation in housework. Husbands with a traditional gender role attitude showed less participation in their own households and a higher proportion of their wives. On the other hand, the wife's sex role attitude had no direct effect on husband and wife's participation in housework, but it was found to have an interactive effect with husband's sex role attitude. If the husband had a traditional gender role attitude, the wife's sex role attitude did not significantly affect his or her participation in the household, whereas a wife married to a husband with a non-traditional gender role attitude was found to have a different degree of participation in household chores depending on her gender role attitude. Therefore, this study suggests that policy efforts should be made to ensure that individuals have an equal gender role attitude. As a policy effort, it was suggested that service-oriented work-life balance policies, high quality child care services and parental leave should be provided, and that policies should be introduced for the purpose of raising the level of gender equality in the country.
